The Disability Tax Credit in Quebec
Two tax returns, two claims. We handle both.
One credit, the same rules in every province
The rules to qualify are the same in Quebec as anywhere in Canada: a severe and prolonged impairment, certified by a medical practitioner. What differs is the value, because Quebec adds its own disability amount on the provincial part of your return.
Social Solidarity Program
The Social Solidarity Program provides monthly financial assistance to people whose capacity for employment is severely limited.
- The published basic benefit for a single adult is $1,318 a month ($1,215 basic benefit plus a $103 adjustment).
- Recipients can earn up to $200 a month from work before their benefit is reduced.
- The program is administered by the Government of Québec, separately from any tax credit.
How this connects to the DTC
Because Quebec has its own income tax system, Revenu Québec assesses its own credit for a severe and prolonged impairment, separate from the CRA’s Disability Tax Credit. Getting both sides right is where many self-filed claims fall short, and it is a big part of what we do for Quebec clients.
