Everyone knows someone who has been affected by a serious medical condition. Whether it’s a family member, a loved one, a friend, or a colleague at work, we often wonder to ourselves ‘what can I do to help?’
In March of 2014, a small group of lofty thinking individuals wondered about this very question. Each of them had a background in the skilled-care industry and was acutely aware of the financial burden that plagues most people with a physical or mental disability. After seeing many patients unable to afford the medical care that they needed, they decided that something must be done to help.
After many long hours of research and meetings with industry professionals, we discovered that literally thousands of Canadians were eligible for various Government benefits but we’re completely unaware. After a little more research, we discovered that one of these benefits – the Disability Tax Credit – could be life changing as it cold be claimed retroactively up to 10 years in the past. What was the problem? The application process was overly complicated. Many Doctors and accountants were unclear on the eligibility criteria. Government agents were not very helpful over the phone.
People who should have been eligible were getting denied. It was time to change all this! The Canada Benefit Group was born.
In a small office in Montreal, QC work began to make the Disability Tax Credit more accessible to those who could benefit from it. We visited nursing homes, made presentations at community centers and met with municipal politicians. We answered questions, gave advice and, most importantly, we listened.
We quickly realized that this was not just a local problem but a nation-wide issue affecting Canadians across the country. The help was there but people did not know how to access it.
Canada Benefit Group expanded its office and staff to begin offering its services in all provinces and territories. The response is overwhelming. Within a few months, the teams grew again to accommodate the increasing demand. Canadians needed help and we were ready to be at the forefront.
We also celebrated our first milestone – $1 Million in refunds for our clients.
With new customer service agents, tax specialists and case managers joining our team, we once again outgrew our offices and moved to a new more spacious location. After establishing ourselves as a leader in the industry, we continue to explore new avenues to help our clients gain access to the Disability Tax Credit and other benefit programs such as the Registered Disability Savings Plan.
Canada Benefit Group marks an amazing milestone : more than $10 million dollars in refunds secured for our clients! As we celebrated this milestone, senior leadership began working on a new five year plan to make the DTC even more accessible to all Canadians.
As part of our unwavering commitment to inclusiveness, we initiated a significant step forward. as we announced that we have expanded our hiring practices to welcome employees with disabilities into our workforce. By doing so, we aim to foster a diverse and inclusive workplace where every individual’s unique talents and perspectives are valued and celebrated.
In a renewed effort to raise awareness about the Disability Tax Credit across Canada, we proudly partnered with some beloved Canadian hockey legends who share our commitment to inclusivity, including Paul Coffey, Shayne Corson, Theo Fleury and others. Through their influence and our collective dedication, we spread the word about this essential tax credit, ensuring that all Canadians know their rights and access the support they deserve.
