How the credit works alongside AccessAbility Supports.
One credit, the same rules in every province
The rules to qualify are the same in Prince Edward Island as anywhere in Canada: a severe and prolonged impairment, certified by a medical practitioner. What differs is the value, because Prince Edward Island adds its own disability amount on the provincial part of your return.
AccessAbility Supports
AccessAbility Supports is PEI’s program for residents with a disability. It covers personal, housing, community, caregiver and financial supports, including Assured Income for basic needs.
- Supports include assistive devices, in-home support, home and vehicle modifications, respite care and Assured Income for food, clothing and shelter.
- Applicants need a disability diagnosed by a health professional, with significant impairment lasting 12 months or more.
- You must be a PEI resident with a provincial health number and be under 65 when you apply.
- Call the Department toll-free at 1-877-569-0546 to arrange an assessment.

How this connects to the DTC
AccessAbility Supports and the Disability Tax Credit are separate programs. The DTC is applied for through the CRA and can be claimed back up to 10 years.
