One credit, the same rules in every province
The rules to qualify are the same in New Brunswick as anywhere in Canada: a severe and prolonged impairment, certified by a medical practitioner. What differs is the value, because New Brunswick adds its own disability amount on the provincial part of your return.
Disability Support Program
New Brunswick’s Disability Support Program builds a plan around each person’s needs, with supports at home and in the community.
- Supports can include personal care, respite, living skills training, transportation, technical devices and employment support.
- Open to New Brunswick residents aged 19 to 64 with a long-term disability who need help with personal support or community participation.
- A financial assessment based on income applies.
- Apply online through Social Development or call 1-833-733-7835.

How this connects to the DTC
The Disability Support Program provides services, while the Disability Tax Credit puts money back in your pocket through the tax system. The two are separate, and many people qualify for both.
